The Sedgefield Children and Young People’s Partnership

Background

The Sedgefield Children and Young People’s Partnership was formally launched in February 2004, following work initiated by the LSP Healthy Borough Policy Group.

The purpose of the Partnership is to improve the lives of children, young people and their families within Sedgefield Borough.

Membership is open and inclusive to all agencies and stakeholders committed to developing Children’s Services across Sedgefield Borough.

At present there are approximately 27 agencies that have signed up to be stakeholders within the Partnership these include statutory (Sedgefield Borough Council sections, police, health, social care, education) and community/voluntary (DISC, Family Link, CAVOS) services.

The Partnership are currently working on:

  • The implementation of the Every Child Matters Agenda alongside the priority issues identified by children and young people, their families and their service providers. More details on these issues will be posted on this page in the near future. The development of a joint Commissioning Strategy for investment in children’s services in Sedgefield Borough.
  • To support the local implementation of Sure Start and the Children’s Centre programmes in Sedgefield Borough.
  • Educational issues such as Extended and Full Service Models for Schools.
  • To develop a local preventative strategy and family support through identification of service gaps, action planning and implementation of measures to fill gaps.
  • The development of a Children and Young Peoples Participation Charter and toolkit
  • The commissioning of approximately £130,000 of Children’s Fund Resources
  • To ensure a coordinated approach to all those strategic initiatives aimed at children, young people, parents, carers and families having an impact on children’s welfare.
The Partnership are in the process of examining their structure as the impending Children’s Plan and the new look Sedgefield Borough Local Strategic Partnership will have a significant effect on how they operate.

Other issues such as improving the involvement and awareness of the grass root community and voluntary groups (scouts, church youth groups, out of school clubs, etc) and children, young people and their families are also high on the agenda.
