Local Planning Groups

Easington Children, Young People and their Families

In 2004, Easington developed a planning forum to improve services for children, young people and their families. It is known as the Easington Children and Families Planning Forum. Initially, a small Executive Group was set up to work on the strategic direction, commit resources and make decisions. Under the Executive group was a wider, more inclusive Forum, formed to turn strategy into action. Over 50 people attended the first meeting of the Forum, which was open to anyone with a stake in children’s services in Easington.

Six key work streams have been identified for early action, and sub groups have been set up to make progress on them. The 6 areas are:
  1. Children's Centres in Easington
  2. Local Preventative Strategy
  3. Involving children young people and families
  4. Substance misuse issues
  5. Emotional Well Being
  6. Children with Disability/Special Needs
As the agenda progressed, the need to revisit the existing structure emerged. It became essential to all partners that this group links directly to the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and takes responsibility for the integration agenda in Children Services for Easington area. Development plans for Easington include:
  • Project to support parents with drug / alcohol problems
  • Enhancement of School Nursing
  • Services for children with a disability / special need
  • Equity in West Easington
  • Counselling services for young people
  • Enhancement of Young Carers Project
  • Enhancement of speech and language therapy
  • Healthy Schools project
  • Community Safety
  • Proposed investment of circa £2 million over the next three years
