This section of the audit of this outcome area examines the extent to which children and young people in Durham make a positive contribution. The audit of this outcome area examines:
- How well do children and young people in Durham make a positive contribution?
- What services are available to help them?
- What are the views of children and young people?
- What are the views of parents and carers?
In order to gather a local view of how well children and young people make a positive contribution an Audit Team was assembled consisting of representatives from the following organisations in County Durham:
- County Durham Youth Engagement Service
- Connexions County Durham
- Durham County Council – Education
- Durham County Council – Education in the Community
- Durham County Council – Anti Bullying Service
- Investing in Children
The Positive Contribution Audit Team represents only part of the sector of services available but the small size of the team has enabled this audit process to be piloted within the ANS 2005 project. The team also ensured that representatives from the voluntary sector, namely Disc, Children North East and NCH were kept informed of developments and the progress of the group throughout the process.
The Government suggests that we judge the extent to which young people make a positive contribution by looking at whether they:
- Engage in decision making
- Support the community and the environment
- Choose not to offend or engage in anti-social behaviour
- Choose not to bully or discriminate
- Develop confidence and enterprising behaviour
The indicators for this section reflect the countywide indicators for children and young people as identified in the '
Outcomes for Children and Young People in County Durham' document and the trial audit process which provides a view of how some services contribute.
